The long-list of show jumpers who are hoping to carry British hopes at the World Equestrian Games at Jerez in Spain later this year has been announced by the BSJA and BEF.
The list includes a combination of youth and experience, with established team members such as John and Michael Whitaker and Tim Stockdale alongside Scott Smith, Richard Davenport and Mark Armstrong.
The full list of riders is:
- John Whitaker
- Michael Whitaker
- Tim Stockdale
- Robert Smith
- Di Lampard
- William Funnell
- Damian Charles
- Andrew Davies
- Scott Smith
- Richard Davenport
- Mark Armstrong
The first phase of the show jumping team’s preparations for the World Championships will be Nations Cup classes at La Baule in France, Lucerne in Switzerland, Lisbon in Portugal and Modena in Italy.
“We have met with each of the riders on the long-list and have discussed their preferred preparation programmes with them, factoring in competition, physical preparation, injury management and veterinary support as well as a number of new initiatives,” said show jumping’s performance manager, Derek Ricketts.
“Although Nations Cups are events in their own right, we plan to use these team occasions as stepping stones towards WEG. All of the long-listed riders will have the opportunity to complete in at least one of these events.”
