Dun Horse and Pony Society revived this summer
Things are looking up for riders and breeders of duns, who have their own society once again.
The Dun Horse and Pony Society (DHPS) had lapsed for a number of years until dun enthusiast Liz Mangham became involved this summer.
The society’s aim is to raise the profile of duns in the UK.
A show was held on 1 September at Hanlith Hall in Yorkshire.
“There are very few classes specifically for dun and buckskin horses and ponies,” said Liz.
“It will be a while before we get to the same level as the Coloured Horse and Pony Society [CHAPS], but that is the aim.
“We now have a panel of judges and have had applications from shows to affiliate to us — Equifest has agreed to run classes for us next year.”

Elizabeth Hodgson, whose daughter Laura and their Welsh part-bred Talponciau Gold Print stood supreme at the first DHPS show, is one of the first members of the revived society.
“We could not believe it when we heard there was a show devoted to duns,” Elizabeth told H&H.
“We have learnt so much already — we thought Goldie was just dun, but now we know he is buckskin.”
The DHPS is offering membership at £3 for the remainder of 2012.
