Carl Hester has announced (January 2014) that Liebling II (Lenny) has come back to the UK to retire at his yard.
The 17-year-old dark bay by Lorentin — who started his career with Anna Ross Davies — competed with 5 different riders at international grand prix. He finished 10th at the European Championships in 2007 with Anna and went on to help secure team silver at the European Championships 2009 and World Equestrian Games in 2010 with Carl.
William Fox-Pitt’s London 2012 eventer Lionheart has been put down after colic surgery.
The Olympic team silver medal-winning gelding was sold to America in November to be ridden by US eventer Allison Springer, who is based in Florida for the winter eventing season.
Following the sad news earlier today (Tuesday 14 January) that St Nicholas Abbey had been put down following a bout of colic, H&H looks back at his sparkling career in pictures.
The son of champion sire Montjeu had 21 starts and won 9 races, including 6 Group Ones. He is the only racehorse to have won 3 Coronation Cups with career earnings of £4.95m.
