Poisonous plants: Oak


Although most horse owners are aware of the dangers of acorns, but it must be remembered that the leaves of the oak tree are also poisonous to the horse.

If eaten, leaves and the acorns can cause “addiction” in the horse and the following:

  • depression
  • colic
  • feaces problems including bloody diarrhoea
  • liver and kidney damage
  • urinary problems
