Britain’s Elizabeth Barratt holds third place at the conclusion of the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event dressage for the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S class.
The 20-year-old is in Kentucky with two other young Brits as part of a new initiative called Rising Lions, which aims to give such riders experience at overseas events.
Elizabeth scored 29.7 with Barratt Eventing’s elegant grey Ride For Thais Chaman Dumontceau for her test this morning (24 April). The pair particularly excelled in the trotwork, with some slightly lower marks creeping in around the walk and half-pirouettes and for one canter half-pass and flying change section.
“I was absolutely thrilled. He was amazing,” said Elizabeth. “I’ve never ridden this horse in such a big atmosphere before. I was expecting him to rise to the occasion, which he did. He loves a crowd and attention on him, so it was the perfect atmosphere for him to go into and do a great test.”
“We spent the whole of last year consolidating at three-star,” said Elizabeth Barratt after her Kentucky Three-Day Event dressage.
“We moved up to four-star at the very end of the year and I feel like over this winter, we’ve really put a lot of work in getting to know each other, ramping it up a little bit with our dressage and jumping, and we’ve come out this year feeling like a true partnership.”

Elizabeth said this Rising Lions trip is an amazing opportunity, as did the other members of the squad, Isabelle Cook, and Finn Healy, who did his test yesterday.
Finn and Greannanstown Monbeg Joe now sit 25th at the conclusion of the dressage phase, having scored 35.8.
