Stanwick Ghost, the 16.2 grey gelding who was ridden by Ian Stark, died last week aged 15.
Jack, as he was known at home, won £17,087 during his 10-year career. His successful partnership with Ian included a convincing win at the inaugural CIC*** at Chatsworth in 1999, a sixth place at Badminton in 1996 and fifth at the Atlanta Olympics.
Owned by Lady Hartington, Stanwick Ghost last competed at Chatsworth CIC*** in 2000, where he was second. Jack then returned to Lady Hartington to become her hack and hunter but their time together was short due to the melanomas which took his life.
See this week’s Horse & Hound (issue dated 12 July) for Ian Stark’s tribute to this fantastic horse.
