Local hero Scott Brash delighted clear round showjumping winners at the Peeblesshire Grand Annual Show recently — by donating special rosettes.
Organisers of the show, run by Peeblesshire Agricultural Society, approached the Olympic gold medal winner to ask him if he would be interested in sponsoring the class on Saturday 16 August.
“He seemed delighted to be asked and didn’t need persuading,” said organiser Morag Clark. “He arranged the most fabulous rosettes and we suggested they had his name in gold lettering on.
“The kids — and some adults — had grins from ear-to-ear when they jumped their clear rounds. Many said they were inspired by him.”
And it was a family affair as Scott’s sister Lea helped design and build the showjumping course.
Scott’s fans were thrilled further when he won the €148,500 top prize at the London leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour later that day at Horse Guards. Watch the video of Scott’s winning jump off.
“He was every bit as Mr Humble and Cool when we asked him as he is on TV,” added Ms Clark.
“Peebles is very proud of Scott and we are honoured he spared nothing in giving dozens of Border kids a great memory.”
