Master Minded currently “comfortable in a cast”
Injured racehorse Master Minded is reported to be “comfortable in his cast” and is progressing as expected, following an operation on his tendon.
The dual Champion Chase winner suffered a potentially career-ending injury during the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
The nine-year-old gelding struck into himself during the race and has since been treated at the Newmarket Equine Hospital.
“He cut into his superficial digital flexor tendon and associated tendon sheath,” Ian Wright from Newmarket Equine Hospital told H&H. “We flushed out the tendon sheath, cleaned it up and repaired it – he’s now in a cast and comfortable.
“He’ll be on antibiotics for a least a week and will remain here no less than a month. It’s too early to say for certain at the moment, but it is looking unlikely he’ll race again.”
Master Minded has won eight Grade One races in his career including two Cheltenham Champion Chases (2008, 2009) and two Tingle Creeks (2008, 2010). He most recently won theGrade One Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot on 19 November.
