Totilas yearling scores highest Futurity mark of 2012

Potential dressage and eventing youngsters featured strongly at the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity evaluations at Catherston Stud on Tuesday 21st August. The three top scorers all earned elite premiums – one in eventing and two in dressage. There were an impressive 18 higher first premiums awarded, 11 of which were in eventing.

The evaluators at Catherston were impressed at the consistent quality of the entries. All three agreed that the three elites had exceptional potential.

The day’s top score went to dressage colt Timolin (pictured). His score of 9.38 for owner and breeder Aram Gregory is the highest awarded so far this year.

Timolin is by dressage stallion Totilas, out of Samira by Sion. Samira was successfully competed by Aram’s wife, the late Olympic dressage rider Jane Gregory.

Catherston was the first outing for the bay yearling and he rose to the occasion and showed off to the appreciative crowd.

“He has lots of presence and he’s got the potential to perform at the top level internationally,” said Jennie Loriston-Clarke. “The Futurity gives us a good view of breeding in the UK. It’s a great way to have your stock evaluated by people who are giving an independent view.

“The recession has had an impact on breeding, but I hope that Britain’s success at the Olympics and horses like Woodlander Farouche at the world championships will pick it up again and encourage breeders to keep producing these top horses.”

The second elite of the day went to Catherston Definitive, owned and bred by Jennie Loriston-Clarke. The three-year-old earned a score of 9.33 in the eventing section. He is by Catherston Dazzler out of the thoroughbred mare Celony, who is by Primitive Rising.

Celony also produced the top eventing foal, Fiona Boyne’s Cedrik. By Royaldik, he earned a higher first premium of 8.89.

The highest scoring foal was dressage colt Lord Barnaby B, who earned 9.00. Owned and bred by Richard Black, the chestnut colt is by Lord Carnaby out of Richard’s home-bred Don Frederico mare, Daiquiri B.

Audacio Equites, owned by Toby Vernon and bred by Vanessa Vernon was the top scoring two-year-old of the day, scoring a higher first eventing premium of 8.94. The colt is by Grafenstolz out of Just Chilli, by Kuwait Beach.

The highest placed dressage foal was Seagry Tobias, who earned a higher first premium of 8.93. He was produced through embryo transfer and is another by Totilas, this time out of the Sandro Hit mare Seagry Rohsan. Tobias is owned and bred by Keith Taylor of Seagry Stud.

Mylow was the highest placed showjumper, earning a higher first premium of 8.82. The colt foal is owned and bred by Sarah Jones and Nicky Jesse. He is by Peppermill out of Carousel Jazz, by Carousel.

Nicki and Michael Bates’ mare Grenache was the highest scoring showjumping yearling, earning a higher first premium with a score of 8.62. She is by Ustinov out of Tropical by Ircolando.
