And now, a US company has taken the trend for Disney princess tack to perhaps its inevitable conclusion — by producing a strap-on unicorn horn.

Wish Pony (slogan, “the stuff of fairy tales”) promises a “realistic” look, thanks to plastic straps that attach to a bridle or headcollar.

In a range of sizes and girlie colours, it is, the company promises, the “perfect parade accessory”.

And if that isn’t enough for the little princess in your life, how about the matching real feather Pegasus wings?

The horn does, however, come one substantial caveat.

“If your horse will be running, jumping or engaging in any athletic activity,” the company warns, “the unicorn horn may fall off”.

    Unicorn horns cost $36.99 (£24.50), wings from $299.99 (£199).  Visit: www.wishpony.com
