Geldings that have frozen semen stored will be allowed to come forward for Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain (SHB(GB)) stallion gradings. This follows the first assessment of a gelding, PSH Overture, in March.
However, only geldings awarded Grade 1 status will be eligible for registration into the studbook. They will be issued with covering certificates, but registered separately from graded stallions.
SHB(GB)’s Marian Eydmann said that, while it is “not expected to be a common procedure”, it “may offer a more straightforward alternative to cloning”.
