Police horse joins rescue charity

  • An ex-police horse has joined a rescue charity’s training team.

The newest member of the training team at HorseWorld in Bristol is Beaufort, a former member of the Avon and Somerset mounted unit.

He will be used as an escort horse for inexperienced horses on the roads.

“Beaufort has been finding the 4-hour long shifts with the police a bit much now he’s getting older,” said HorseWorld’s training manager, Sarah Hollister.

“His workload will be a fraction of what he’s used to so it will be a welcome break for him,” she added.

Avon and Somerset Police have now given three ex-police horses to the charity.

The public will be able to meet Beaufort at HorseWorld’s ‘behind the scenes’ days on 2 and 3 August.
