Donkey Sanctuary opens as a wedding venue

  • Residents at the Donkey Sanctuary headquarters in Devon will be hoofed out of their stables over the coming months to accommodate wedding parties.

The charity has been awarded a licence to hold weddings and civil ceremonies. It is offering the “cosy setting” of a donkey stable as the venue, complete with donkey bunting.

Set in 400 acres of rolling hills near Sidmouth, the charity realised it should make the most of its position.

But what will the 500 donkeys make of the bridal invasion?

“When we were doing the photo shoot [to launch the idea] the donkeys were fascinated,” said Suzi Cretney from the charity.

“They just love attention — the more cuddles the better.”

Profits made from the weddings will go directly to the Donkey Sanctuary’s projects.
