Big Star back in action in Florida

  • Olympic gold medal-winning showjumper Big Star made his competition comeback with Nick Skelton at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida yesterday (Wednesday 5 February).

Big Star jumped in a 1.25m schooling class. Nick told H&H: “He was great — as good as ever.”

It had been 6 months since Beverley Widdowson’s 11-year-old stallion was last seen in action, when helping Great Britain win the FEI Nations Cup in Dublin in August.

Big Star was found to have a leg injury, meaning the Olympic gold medallist missed the chance to bid for the 2nd leg of the Rolex Grand Slam in Spruce Meadows, Canada, in September and the dual Aachen/Rome grand prix winner has remained on the sidelines since.
