Ben Maher’s ride Urico injured

  • Ben Maher’s ride Urico will not compete at top-level again after picking up an injury.

The 13-year-old gelding, owned by Jane Clark, was competing in the grand prix at La Baule yesterday (18 May) when he was injured.

“Urico will undergo surgery to repair the sustained injury,” said Ben on his Facebook page.

“Jane, myself and our team are devastated but are confident that Urico will make a full recovery, so that this talented horse can retire from international competition and enjoy a retirement at Jane Clark’s farm in Wellington, Florida.”

He was assessed by the British team vet, Bobby McEwen, before being taken to a veterinary clinic in Nantes.

Urico, who is by Zandor Z, has been with Ben since late 2012.

The pair had been successful this year, taking CSI3*, CSI04* and CSI5* at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida in February and March.
