Totilas foal sells for €200,000 in Germany

A foal by Totilas, sold in Germany last week, has equalled the foal auction price record.

At the 2012 Oldenburg autumn elite auction in Vechta, Germany (6 October) the colt Total Recall equalled the foal auction price record when he went under the hammer for €200,000.

The foal is by the record-breaking dressage stallion Totilas out of a Sandro Hit/Figaro mare.

Totilas’ owners Paul Schockemohle and Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff were in a lengthy bidding war with American Jamie White-Welling — who is married to Smallville actor Tom Welling. But the high-profile syndicate’s bid was enough to secure the bay colt.

The second most expensive foal at the auction, Finalsatz, a Fidertanz son, made just quarter that, being knocked down for €51,000 to German bidders.

This amount of money [€200,000] has only been paid once before at auction for a foal. A year ago at the same sale, the bay colt foal A La Dressage (by Ampere out of a Sandro Hit/Donnerhall mare) sold to Jerich, the sponsors of dutch Olympic dressage medallist Adelinde Cornelissen.

In 2006, the now licensed stallion Furstenball broke the foal price record by selling for €110,000. But just 12 months later that was broken by the price paid for the Sandro Hit/Wolkentanz II colt Sabeltanz who sold for €127,000.

That record stood until last year.
