    Welcome to this Horse & Hound Podcast advertisement feature with The Insurance Emporium, in which our podcast host Pippa Roome chats to senior claims assessor Tiffani-Jo Ormesher from The Insurance Emporium alongside two horse owners Sally Wright and Catherine Oasgood.

    Insuring horses is a big decision for many owners, but Tiffani-Jo explains the process of making a claim and how customers are supported throughout, while Sally and Catherine talk about their horses and share their stories of claims from the customer’s perspective.

    An introduction to Sally’s insurance story…

    “You always worry. Lots of friends that have thought they were covered for things, and then they weren’t. And you do get all the horror stories. So, of course, when my horse got EMS and laminitis I didn’t want to try to claim at first. I thought maybe I’d just deal with it.

    “But I knew that it was going to be a long drawn out thing, so I phoned up straight away. I was made to feel at ease and I didn’t have to do anything online. If I wanted the paperwork sent to me, I could do that. After it had been going for a while, if I wanted the vet to be paid directly, I could do that too. Or if I wanted the money to come to me, I could do that.

    “I just felt supported through the whole thing. If I had a problem, I could just phone up and there was someone on the end of the phone. Because I’m a bit older, I like to have pen and paper and someone on the end of the phone, which was amazing.

    “I hadn’t really heard of EMS. I know most ponies that get it with laminitis because they’re overweight. My boy wasn’t really overweight – it just came on over a week where I felt that his feet didn’t feel quite right when I was riding him. He felt a little bit doddery.

    “It’s a lifetime of managing it mostly. It’s been really difficult because you hear lots of different stories, but you just do the best you can and you have to listen to your vet and try to pick your way through it.

    “For all horse owners, when something goes wrong with your horse, it’s super stressful anyway. So having that support and knowing that you’re able to rely on your insurance company is really important.”
