Swedish show jumping team member Maria Gretzer, the only female member of Team Sony Ericsson, will lead the inaugural BSJA Coaches Conference.
The BSJA’s Nicky Fuller says: “This conference has come about as a result of the training programme we’ve had in place for our own coaches for the last three years.
“We thought this would be a good way for those trainers who are now accredited by the BSJA to continue their professional development.”
The conference is aimed at anyone interested in training the show jumper and the BSJA has 100 tickets available.
“The conference, which is in the lovely setting of the Unicorn Trust, has been planned for some time,” says Nicky. “It was Di Lampard who suggested that we ask Maria Gretzer to lead it.
“Maria’s coaching style is very much along the same lines as the methods we are keen to promote among our coaches. She is a classical trainer and has had a lot of success with taking young horses to international level.
“Di will be selecting four talented young riders and their horses and Maria will be working with them two at a time. We felt that by having just four riders we could get further and work in more depth.
“At the end of each practical session there is 20-25min scheduled for Maria to give her observations and feedback and for questions from the audience.”
The BSJA are planning to make the conference an annual event.
The conference is on 4 November at the Unicorn Trust, Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire. Tickets are priced at £29 for BSJA members and £35 for non-members, including a buffet lunch and can be bought from the BSJA (tel: 02476 698800).
