Chloe Chubb’s showing blog: little and large join the team

  • So since my last blog I have ended up even busier than before with two new additions to the team — one little, one large!

I have been very lucky and have been given a lovely Dartmoor stallion to show until the end of the season.

Shilstone Rocks North Westerly (pictured right) is a five-year-old owned by Lynda Calcutt. He was shown a bit last year, but had been off work since August 2011 so we were not sure how he would come back into being ridden.

Like all the best ponies he has a few little ‘issues’, but he has a great personality and in the short time we have had him he has already come on so much, growing in confidence and getting to know us.

We have had three outings, and minus the early exit we had in our first class, we have won three championships. Finally I have won some red rosettes this year!

So now it is full steam ahead for what is left of the season to see if it is possible for Windy to pull it out of the bag and get a HOYS ticket. It’s a big ask but he is quite a character and whatever happens I am just really pleased to have been asked to show him. I hope he continues to progress in the way he has so far and he is only young so still has lots of time to mature.

The second new arrival was not planned at all and I have resigned myself to the fact that being horsey means I will always be broke. I am not into buying clothes or shoes but a nice horse gets me every time!

My new boy is a step up in height — a four-year-old New Forest stallion called Sabinas Stormy Fellow.

Unfortunately I fell in love with him when I went to see him. I have never had a New Forest before and I was really taken in by his lovely nature, big eyes and movement.

Although he is four, he is unbroken and I don’t have any plans to start his ridden education until the end of this year when the shows have calmed down and I have a bit more time. I will make sure I keep you all updated with his progress.

It’s unbelievable it is August already — there are only a few shows left! The weather has definitely dampened this season but let’s hope we can banish the blues and end on a high.

    Chloe
