Our reviewer liked this jacked for everyday use on the yard, but would recommend purchasing a size larger than the one you usually would wear

The colour was the first thing that struck me about the Ascot jacket – the deep red is eye-catching and smart. The material also immediately felt of good quality – very soft, and also durable.

I found that it came up small on sizing, and the cut wasn’t ideal for my shape. I tested a size 14 (I am normally a size 10-12) and it was still a little snugger than I would have liked round the hips, while too large around the top. However, the two-way zip helped a lot while riding in it, as did the pleats at the back – meaning that I had no problems at all. It can be tightened around the waist too to give more shape.

Other than the sizing, the jacket is very comfortable to wear, substantial without being bulky, and a lot warmer than I anticipated as it is quite lightweight. I wore it hacking in various autumn/winter temperatures and it adapted well. The fleecy chest pockets are particularly welcome on chilly days at the yard too, as is the hood. The main pockets are also helpfully large.

I am yet to wear this coat while riding in very wet weather, but it kept me entirely dry in light rain, without becoming sodden and heavy. I was also impressed with its breathability – perfect for riding on wet, mild days.

I’d definitely recommend the coat for anyone wanting a good all-round, attractive jacket to wear around the yard and to ride in.

    Verdict

I’d definitely recommend the coat for anyone wanting a good all-round jacket
