Tommo: Too Busy To Die, new book by Derek Thompson
Fans of charismatic racing presenter Derek Thompson will be thrilled to learn that they can now read all about their favourite star.
Tommo: Too Busy To Die, by Derek Thompson was released last week (13 September).
The book recounts stories from his working and personal life, including his role as negotiator in the kidnapping of Shergar, his High Court agony during the Top Cees trial, his job with racing’s biggest owner, Sheikh Mohammed, and his beating the Prince of Wales in a charity race at Plumpton.
He also talks of his cancer treatment. “It’s when you are confronted with dying that you think most about living,” he writes.
The book shows many sides of Derek — including moving and shocking tales, as well as his trademark humour.
As Frankie Dettori says: “Racing without Tommo would be like pasta without sauce — not nearly as interesting.”
Tommo: Too Busy to Die costs £20 and is available from www.racingpost.com/shop and bookshops.
