A new equestrian sports bra is to be launched at Olympia Horse Show (stand Q13, 16-22 December). Its retailers claim it is the “first ever sports bra to be designed specifically for riders”.
The Berlei Riding Bra has reinforced padded straps to prevent tension on the shoulders. It incorporates a side sling — added protection at the side — to increase support while riding, and encourage forward projection for a more flattering silhouette. The nude colour is designed to be discreet under show shirts, and the fabric is designed to be fast-drying, lightweight and breathable.
International event rider Emma Hyslop, who models the bra for online retailer lessbounce.com, says it has “transformed her working day, especially practising dressage”: “Being a size 32E it is essential to have a supportive sports bra.
“I ride 10 horses a day, for over 5 hours, so I need a bra that is also comfortable to wear all day long. Sitting trot without a decent bra can be one of the worst things!”
Selaine Saxby, founder of lessbounce.com, says the right sports bra is vital for riders for their comfort as well as their physique.
“Ligament stretch caused by the bouncing movement during exercise can be irreversible, causing busts to droop.
