Two colts awarded elite premiums at Southview Futurity

Two colts took elite premiums at the 2012 Baileys Horse Feeds/British Breeding/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity at Southview on Thursday 16 August.

Potential dressage yearling, Furst Pik, went home with an elite premium of 9.06 — the highest score of the day. This WBBUK colt is by Furstenball out of a Pik Solo mare, Pik Dame Blues. He is owned and bred by Francoise Melief from Malpas. Evaluator Jennie Loriston Clarke commented on how balanced and light he was on his feet with a good attitude and desire to go forward.

The second elite of the day went to colt foal, Harthill Power Game, in the eventing section on a score of 9.01. The Harthill Stud own and bred this son of their popular eventing stallion Power Blade. Power Game is out of a Riverman advanced event mare, Belmont Virlandie. All three evaluators Jennie Loriston Clarke, Sheri Tozer-Rob and Judith Davis agreed that Power Game had all the attributes of a four-star horse including great acceleration, ability to collect and boldness.

The top scoring potential showjumper, JRP Kick On Casanova, took home a very strong higher first premium of 8.87. This bay yearling is by Casanova Du Domaine Z. His dam, Kormeline (by Burgraaf) is also the dam of his breeder Jonathan Parrot’s exciting 2011 Futurity elite young stallion Danny Kannan. Kick On Casanova is now owned by Emma Jones.

Another yearling to do well was Hernandez, a black colt by Hoftanz out of a Donnerhall mare, St Pr St Dahlie, for owner and breeder Sandra Tinker of the Fosshey Stud. He scored a higher first premium of 8.83 in the dressage section.

Top sports pony of the day was Deborah Denison’s Goodenbergh Sovereign, by Rotherwood Signature out of Goodenburgh Rosie. This two-year-old gelding took a higher first premium of 8.79 in the showjumping section.

BEF head of equine development Jan Rogers said: “The Southview venue has continued the 2012 theme of yearlings doing very well. We often have large numbers of foals that get the top scores, but this year we have seen many more yearlings.”
