Nominations open for veterinary awards


  • Nominations for an award celebrating members of the veterinary are now open.

    The Petplan Veterinary Awards recognise individuals and practices that have gone “above and beyond” in their daily roles.

    This is the 16th time that the awards have run and nominees can be put forward by animal owners across the UK.

    The 2015 awards received 15,101 nominations for practice managers, nurses, vets, veterinary practices and support staff.

    Nominations opened yesterday (Tuesday, 1 September) and winners will be revealed in 2016.

    “At Petplan Equine, our customers are constantly telling us remarkable stories about veterinary staff who have provided vital support to their horses, often going to extraordinary lengths to do so,” said Petplan’s Isabella von Mesterhazy.

    “The Veterinary Awards provide an opportunity for owners to say thank you to their practice and the members of the team.”

    Bute and Cowal Vets were among this year’s winners.

    The vets, which has practices in Dunoon and Rothesay, was awarded the veterinary practice of the year title at a ceremony in Birmingham in April.

    The family-run practice has five full-time vets working across its sites and runs its own 24-hour emergency service.

    On receiving their award, a spokesperson for the practice said: “Our clients have got behind us in a huge way– we have had so many kind messages over the past months, and receiving this prize makes everything we do feel really worthwhile.”

    Other 2015 winners included vet Steve Kirby, veterinary nurse Audrey Kelly, practice manager Val Marsh and veterinary support worker Victoria Smith.
