Marko the Donkey to run for mayor in Bulgaria


  • Donkeys are not usually known for their political prowess, but that could all change in Bulgaria.

    Marko, the donkey, will be standing for office in Varna, Bulgaria next month.

    The Society for New Bulgaria political party is putting forward the donkey to represent them at the elections on 23 Octover as they are unhappy with incumbent mayor Kiril Yordanov.

    “Unlike the other mayoral candidates and politicians, Marko has a strong character, doesn’t steal, doesn’t lie, and gets the work done,” the society’s campaign director Angel Dyankov told press
