Major Richard Waygood to retire in April

  • Major Richard Waygood, the riding master of the Household Cavalry, undertook his final official ceremonial act, before his retirement, today (3 December).

Major Waygood and the Household Cavalry (pictured right at Olympia) escorted the Queen’s carriage from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster this morning for the State Opening of Parliament.

Badminton and Burghley fans may remember “Dickie” from his appearances as competitor between 2002 and 2005, with Master Fred.

Major Waygood retires in April after 30 years’ service.
