Although 2001 was a year blighted by FMD, there were some memorable moments in the equestrian calendar too.

Highlights of 2001 included Pippa Funnell retaining her European title as she led Britain to team gold at the eventing European championships, a fantastic run by Red Marauder to win the Martell Grand National in terrible weather conditions and what has been described as “the best Burghley ever”.
