Rosie Fry’s eventing blog: a new horse, autumn hunting and a last-minute entry

  • Well, I have some very exciting news to report this week; a new equine member has joined the team! He is a very smart 4-year-old by Cavalier Two For Joy and has just come over from Ireland (pictured with his new friend, 2-year-old Tiger).

He looks to have all the right attributes to make a lovely event horse and has a gorgeous personality with it. We have decided that he could do with some time out in the field so that he can do his final bit of growing before I start playing with him over the winter. I am itching to get going on him so I hope this next month goes quickly!

Sadly the sale of Leo (Soltair Justice) fell through, so I have him back and, having thought my season was pretty much over, we did a last-minute entry to Osberton (I am very grateful to the entry secretary for accepting it), and we are off to do the CCI2* next week. I have never been to Osberton, but have heard only great things about it so I am very excited.

I will have some last-minute dressage lessons before we head off and take him for a cross-country school to blow the cobwebs away as I haven’t ridden him for a good few days.

In other news, I managed not to suffer the same fate as my poor mother and didn’t get bucked off the naughty Louie (Bankon Louie) autumn hunting last weekend. He behaved like an absolute angel (obviously knew the boss was back on board!). There were about 90 horses out with the Blackmore and Sparkford Vale, which is a fantastic turn out for autumn hunting, showing that support for hunting is as strong as ever.

You can follow how we are getting on next week at Osberton on Twitter by following my account, @rosiefry.

Also make sure you read new H&H blogger Nick Scholfield — he rode my brother Harry’s first ever National Hunt runner last October and very nearly made it a fairytale start, finishing 2nd! I’m sure he will have some good National Hunt experiences to share with everyone.
