Our reviewer found this hood for her horse particularly useful and robust, and it helped keep her horse clean in the field

I tested a large, navy Snuggy Hoods turn out hood. I opted for the zip style and found the hood extremely valuable for keeping my horse clean and dry during the winter when the fields became very muddy — it is the ultimate time-saver when it comes to bringing in wet and muddy horses from the field. The hood is also extremely useful for use in the stable before a competition as it prevents stable stains.

As my horse is coloured, and loves being dirty, he always finds a way to get stable stains and/or mud on his face, so this hood has given me back hours when it comes to grooming. My horse is also very skilful at breaking his rugs and somehow removing any hood or neck, however he has not managed to shift this one yet!

The hood is made from a robust, breathable, showerproof stretch fabric. It can also be popped in the washing machine whenever it gets dirty, which is very handy.

The hood is also lined with a silky “shoulder and mane saver” to prevent these areas from being rubbed or chaffed. It is designed for use all year round and I have not found it problematic during the warmer weather – my horse remained cool and clean.

As my horse is a bit head shy it took him a while to get used to me putting the hood on, however the zip made this much easier, so I would recommend opting for that version. The zip runs from chin to chest and the hood also features an adjustable nose, self-fixing surcingle and elastic poll adjusters for a better fit. The hood fits him well and has not rubbed him.

Overall I would recommend this for those who have early starts on competition days, or own a horse that is prone to getting dirty or muddy!
