Top jumps owner David Johnson dies of cancer

  • Top National Hunt owner David Johnson died on Saturday (6 July) aged 67. He had been suffering from cancer.

    Mr Johnson was champion owner six times between 1998 and 2008 and had many horses with Martin Pipe, and later his son David Pipe.

    His major wins included the 2008 Grand National with Comply Or Die and the Paddy Power Gold Cup three times (Challenger Du Luc, 1996, Cyfor Malta, 1998 and Lady Cricket, 2000). His most successful season was 2004-2005 when he had 111 winners.

    He leaves his wife Shirley and children Lisa and Stephen.
