Farewell to… Epsom-based trainer John Akehurst

  • The Epsom-based trainer died on 14 March aged 50 at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey. He had been ill for some time.

    Mr Akehurst trained many notable winners, including Royal Ascot Wokingham Stakes winner Capricho, and had some success as an amateur jockey before getting a trainer’s licence in 1990.

    His funeral will be held tomorrow (30 March) in Leatherhead.
