Teenage Onassis heiress bids for Olympic glory

  • Athina Roussel, the sole heir to her grandfather Aristotle Onassis’s £1billion shipping fortune has been invited to try out for the Greek equestrian team for the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Sixteen-year-old Athina has already competed in junior international competitions with her horse Arco from her base in Switzerland where she now lives under the protection of bodyguards for fear of kidnapping.

Athina was only three years old when her mother Christina died leaving her heir to one of the world’s greatest fortunes. The first step for the young heiress, who now divides her time between her studies and her horses, will be to join the prestigious Atticus riding club in Athens where other young equestrian hopefuls are already in training.
