See War Horse author Michael Morpurgo at Sandown Park

  • War Horse author Michael Morpurgo is to be the guest of honour at Sandown Park racecourse next month.

Michael Morpurgo and a puppet from the stage play will be joining the runners and riders in the parade ring on Royal Artillery Day, 17 February.

The hit West End play, based on Michael’s book, has now been made into a Hollywood film which was released on Friday (13 January).

The day supports Help for Heroes and will feature military racing followed by a performance from the War Horse puppet Topthorn.

Sandown Park has also teamed up with the National Army Museum, who currently has a special War Horse exhibition on, for a special interactive display for racegoers.

The Royal Artillery race was first run at Sandown in 1863 and is restricted to horsesthat are owned by members or ex-members, of the Royal Regiment of Artillery. The jockeys, too, must be past or present members of the Armed Forces.
