President of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society to carry Olympic torch

  • The president of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society has been chosen to carry the Olympic torch for a leg of its journey next week.

Eric Davies will leave Aberaeron with the flame at 5pm on 27 May, riding a home-bred Welsh cob mare – Maesmynach Angerdd.

“We don’t have to carry the torch very far, but it is more about the honour of being asked,” Mr Davies told H&H.

“You can never be sure how the mare will react to the torch and the crowds,” he added. “But I don’t think she’ll be bothered, which is why we chose her.”

Other equestrian names who will be carrying the torch include former Olympic eventer Jane Holderness-Roddam and founder of Erm Valley RDA group Peggy Douglas.
