Opening meet will go ahead, say Coakham Bloodhounds


  • The Coakham Bloodhounds’ opening meet will go ahead on 23 October, after hounds recovered from an outbreak of kennel cough.

    Hunt staff were forced to cancel autumn hunting, after hounds were laid low with the bug. There had been fears that they would have to cancel the opening meet, but it will now go ahead.

    Hunt secretary, Jo Field told H&H: “All hounds are fit and ready to hunt. Our first hunt on 23 October is definitely going ahead.”

    The Southdown and Eridge and the Old Surrey Burstow and West Kent hounds have also recently recovered from the respiratory disease.

    Vets say a wet summer and warm autumn have allowed the bug to flourish..
