Lancashire MP wants more off-road riding

  • Lindsay Hoyle MP has tabled an early day motion (EDM) calling for increased protection, maintenance and creation of bridleways and off-road facilities for riders.

In his EDM, tabled last week, the Labour MP for Chorley, “notes with concern the sharp increase in road accidents involving horses, riders and motor vehicles”.

An EDM is a motion tabled for debate on an unspecified date in the future.

Although EDMs are rarely debated in the House of Commons, they are open for signatures of support during the parliamentary session.

Mr Hoyle tabled his EDM following correspondence with his constituents — and 24 MPs have already pledged their support.

Last month, Northern Ireland MP Iris Robinson also called for better off-road provisions for riders.
