Olympic eventer to steward at Aintree
If you visit Aintree this year, you might spot a familiar face manning The Chair.
Olympic eventer Ian Stark will be stewarding at the meeting for the first time, although he’s been a steward in Scotland for several years.
“I’ll be stewarding at The Chair on Friday [in the Topham Chase] and I’ll be out on course for the big race on Saturday [5 April]. I’m really looking forward to it,” he told H&H.
As part of Ian’s job, he’ll be watching for any offences and keeping an eye on equipment. He added that his background in eventing — and as a course-designer — comes in handy for the role.
“We have to walk the course and check the ground, and I’ve walked plenty of courses in my time, so that helps,” he added.
