Equine theatre on tour

  • A team of horsemen from Moscow will be part of an equestrian extravaganza beginning a nationwide tour of the UK on 4 May

Equestrian theatre is set to tour the UK, with a team of Russian Cossacks performing in Britain for the first time in more than 20 years.

The show, called Spirit of the Horse will also feature displays from Spanish Andalusians and a free-style display of Arabian stallions.

Tony Wilkie-Millar, a spokesman for the show, said: “It will provide good entertainment for the whole family, but we are primarily aiming it at those who own horses or have a special interest in them as they appreciate the performances.

The grace, beauty and elegance of the Arab stallions is in sharp contrast to the high-speed spectacular thrills, excitement and courage of the Cossacks as they perform what appear to be impossible feats of horsemanship on their thundering mounts.

Spanish horsemen will demonstrate their unique skills mounted on classic Spanish mounts and we also have a display from an Argentinian gaucho.”

The two-hour programme will include carriage driving, haute ‚cole, Ballet des Cheveaux Fantasie, as well as equestrian comedy.

The performances will be staged in a 2,000-seater touring equestrian theatre and the audience will have a chance to see the horses in their stables.

The show will tour 15 cities in Britain throughout the year, beginning on 4 May at Capesthorne Hall in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
