Equine charities set to benefit from National Pet Month

  • A host of equine charities are set to benefit from National Pet Month 2009.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Trust, The Animal Health Trust, Blue Cross, RSPCA, Riding for the Disabled Association, The Donkey Sanctuary and HorseWorld are among the animal charities who make up this year’s beneficiaries.

National Pet Month 2009 — tagged “Happy pets are healthy pets” — takes place between 4 April – 4 May and is aimed at pet lovers, vets and people who work with animals.

Throughout the month people are encouraged to hold fundraising events across the country to raise money for animal welfare charities

In 2008 events ranged from pet obstacle courses to animal church services.

And this year there will also be a National Pet Month photographic competition, in which owners are invited to send in pictures of their pets.

National Pet Month also promotes responsible pet ownership, make people aware of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets, and increase public awareness of the role of working companion animals.

Cherry Bushell, director of the RCVS Trust, said: “It’s fantastic to be one of the charities that benefit this year from National Pet Month.

“We hope that lots of practices will put on events to promote responsible pet ownership and raise money – and have fun too.”
