Dawn Approach v Toronado — who will win the “Duel on the Downs”?
The pressure’s on for jockeys Richard Hughes and Kevin Manning as they prepare to go head-to-head in the “Duel on the Downs”.
Today at Goodwood (Wednesday 31 July) Toronado (Hughes) and Dawn Approach (Manning) will compete in the £300,000 Group One Sussex Stakes.
The pair have met twice before this season and so far the score is 2-0 to Dawn Approach.
Dawn Approach took the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, when Toronado was back in 4th. But last month Toronado got closer, finishing just a short head behind Dawn Approach in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot (pictured below).
The race is held over a mile and 6 horses are due to go to post.
Who will win? Watch the race at 3.05pm on Channel 4 Racing.
