Thousands of hunting supporters join march in Ireland

  • Around 6,000 hunting supporters demonstrated outside the Irish Green Party’s conference on Saturday (27 March).

Ireland’s coalition government comprising Fiánna Fail and the Greens plans to make stag hunting illegal, meaning the end of Ireland’s only stag hunt — the Ward Union (news, 29 October 2009).

Pro-hunting group Rural Ireland Says Enough (RISE!), accuses the Greens of planning to ban fox-hunting and discriminating against other country sports.

RISE! spokesman Liam Cahill said: “The Greens’ agenda looks like it could split the coalition government. The rural agenda is now in the mainstream of Irish politics.”
