Injured five-star event rider ‘making steady progress’ after fall with ‘a long road ahead’

  • Scottish five-star event rider Louisa Milne Home is “making steady progress” as she continues to recover from a serious head injury sustained in a fall two months ago.

Louisa was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the incident while warming up at a British Showjumping competition at Bogenraith Equestrian, Aberdeenshire, on 27 February.

In March Louisa was diagnosed with a diffuse axonal injury, a serious traumatic brain injury affecting a large area. She spent weeks in a coma, having been moved from intensive care to a neurological ward. On 23 April it was confirmed that Louisa was “much more awake” and showing her “strength, resilience and humour”.

In an update yesterday (28 May) a spokesperson said Louisa is continuing in her recovery.

“We are pleased to say that Louisa is making steady progress and has moved to the Royal Victoria Rehabilitation Hospital in Dundee and her voice is getting stronger every day; her first whisper was ‘watch Badminton’,” read a statement on Louisa’s social media.

“She is working incredibly hard at her physio sessions and her mobility is slowly improving. There is still a long road ahead.

“We appreciate all your positive thoughts and kind messages.”
