A special church service was held in Leicestershire on 28 October in memory of Major Vanessa Lloyd-Davies, the first woman medical officer attached to the Household Cavalry.
During the service at St Michael and All Angels church in Illston-on-the-Hill, Vanessa’s family dedicated a new stained glass window in her memory and to “all who had suffered from the conflict of war”.
Major Lloyd-Davies, who evented at four-star level, took her own life in 2005 aged 44. She had suffered from depression.
Her eventer Don Giovanni II, with whom she completed Burghley, stood outside the church and an address was given by former BBC war correspondent Martin Bell, who was treated by the major for shrapnel wounds during the Bosnian War.
