New bridleway opens — and there’s parking for horses at the pub!

  • A popular bridleway in St Helens has been reopened after improvement works, much to the delight of local riders.

The old bridleway, between north and south of the East Lancashire Road (A580), was disjointed, didn’t link to any other riding routes and was often impassable in winter and wet weather.

But thanks to backing from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the route now links up Carr Mill Dam with Sankey Valley heritage visitor centre. There is parking for cars and horseboxes, plus a corral to ‘park’ horses for riders wanting to pop into the visitor centre or have a restorative drink at the nearby Ship Inn.
