Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
The equestrian events of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were held in Hong Kong because the necessary levels of quarantine and equine disease control could not be guaranteed in mainland China. Hong Kong, with its history of top-class horseracing, incredible veterinary facilities, and experience of handling large scale events, was chosen instead.
Sha Tin racecourse hosted both the pure dressage and showjumping, plus those phases of the eventing competition, while the cross-country took place at Beas River.
Germany was the most successful nation in the equestrian events at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with three gold medals (team and individual eventing, plus team dressage), plus one silver and one bronze (both individual dressage). Britain won two bronze medals in the eventing, with Tina Cook and Miners Frolic taking the individual bronze. There were no British medals in either showjumping or dressage.
