‘Miles of pain’ appeal launched by World Horse Welfare
World Horse Welfare has launched an appeal on YouTube to raise awareness of the suffering of horses being transported long distances for slaughter. The Miles of Pain appeal is part of the charity’s ongoing campaign to pressurise the European Commission into introducing a maximum journey time of 9-12 hours.
Since World Horse Welfare reignited its transport campaign in 2000, the number of horses involved in long-distance travel for slaughter has reduced by 100,000, but there are still 65,000 annually.
