Shire horses Prince and Beauty win ploughing trophy

  • Two young black shire horses from Nottingham have won a coveted ploughing award.

Prince and Beauty — aged six and eight — driven by retired farm worker John Taylor won the Four Shows Ploughing Trophy, pulling a Ransome general purpose plough.

The trio from Retford, Notts, took the trophy after good placings at the Flintham and Southwell ploughing matches.

John has been competition ploughing for 17 years.

He said: “It takes an hour to get the their eight white legs ready for competition and then more time to plait up their manes and tails.”
