The Scottish government launched its Equine Welfare Code of Practice yesterday (29 April) at an equine conference in Fife.
The code is a practical guide for owners and keepers of equines in Scotland. It highlights the duty of care owners have to their animals, emphasising that people need to be knowledgeable before taking on the responsibility of an equine.
Helene Mauchlen of British Horse Society Scotland said: “It is very gratifying that equines are the first animal species to have a specific code created for them under the Animal Health and Welfare Act (Scotland) 2006.”
