A young horse had to be put down after it was dumped with a headcollar on so tight that it had cut down to the bone.
The RSPCA is appealing for help to find the person who dumped the horse in a field on Smite Hill, Worcester. It is thought that he had been left in that condition for some time and the nylon headcollar was also restricting the horse’s eating and breathing.
His injuries were so severe that the RSPCA vet decided to put him down.
RSPCA inspector Kelly Lake said: “This was such a sad situation and the horse was just too badly injured and in too poor a condition to be saved. This could so easily have been prevented.
“We are in the middle of a horse crisis, with more than 800 in our care that have been neglected or abandoned. We wouldn’t be in this situation if owners just took some responsibility for their animals.”
Anyone with information about where the horse came from or who his owner may be is asked to contact the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
