Abandoned horse dies after being set alight

  • A horse abandoned near Dublin has died after being reportedly doused with petrol and set alight.

The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) has expressed “outright condemnation and shock” about its death.

The horse was set alight in Tallaght, to the south of Dublin, late on Wednesday night (27 November). It died from its extensive injuries.

“The horrendous death that this horse endured is unimaginable,” said the DSPCA’s Brian Gillen.

“While we encounter many horrific cruelty and neglect cases with regard to abandoned horses, we have never seen such levels of deliberate and depraved cruelty.

“This awful incident only reinforces the plight of abandoned horses that are roaming across the Dublin landscape. We are asking all the local authorities to take immediate steps to put a stop to this barbaric behaviour with the removal of abandoned horses to safekeeping.”
